On Wednesday we had a bit of a lazy morning and then went to a place in Colon where you can drive across the Panama Canal because Juli thought it would be interesting for me to see it. After we drove across we came to a kind of view-point place where you can see a lot of the canal and they give you information etc. Local people can enter for free and tourists pay $5. We decided not to go up because it was 10 minutes from closing time so it would be a bit of a waste of $5. We continued driving, hoping that we’d come to a place where we could get out of the car and get a good view of the canal.
The roads we were driving on were curvy and surrounded by countryside and there were no other cars there. When we stopped and got out, I thought it looked like a car advert on TV:
It was weird because we could literally walk right up to the canal and could have easily jumped in if we wanted to. It was completely in the middle of nowhere, as you can see from the car picture.
After that we went to a kind of retail park with a casino, supermarket etc and a big car park because Analia also has a skateboard (a little pink Barbie one) so we wanted to go somewhere to practice together. There’s a long tarmac path in the retail park which I think is part of the car park but not many cars go up/down it, so a lot of young people are there all day with bikes, roller-blades and skateboards. A cute little local girl was showing me how she could ride her bike with no hands. She was really proud of herself! I fell off my skateboard trying to avoid crashing into a car and my jeans ripped and I now have an ugly bruise below my knee, but oh well.
That evening we played Just Dance (an interactive dancing game) on Analia’s PlayStation3, then she asked if we could have a mini pyjama party because she’s never been to one. Obviously I said yes and didn’t really know what it would entail considering there were only 2 of us, but I thought it was cute anyway. It turned out that it consisted of a short pillow fight, some questions/answers like “what’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you?” etc, and some games like the word-association game. After that we fell asleep.
